Go to as many big RV shows as you possibly can. Even if you aren't planning to buy a new unit, you can see so many different layouts and design styles in a brief period of time, which will let you know what you like and what to look for.
Go TALK to people who own RVs. Approach as many people as you can and ask them questions about their experience.
