Why is there a blue, ammonia smelling leak in my fridge?

The cooling unit is probably bad. The blue stuff is what happens to some parts when they have been exposed to ammonia for a long time. If the capillary tube from the thermostat (a wire looking thing attached to the fins in the lower box) is blue, you'll need a new thermostat too.
