Hello, I may need to remove and replace a Cummins 5.9 liter diesel engine from a 1995 Itasca Suncruiser. Engine is in the rear. Since I haven't had the opportunity to personally inspect the motorhome yet, I was wondering how, in general, the removal is accomplished.
1. Does the engine and tranny come out as a single unit?
2. Does the engine come out the back of the motorhome after removal of panels (similar to the 1970s VW vans)? or is this the type of motor home where the engine has to be hoisted up into the living quarters and then slid over to the side door?
3. If the motor comes out the back, will I need a rolling hydraulic engine jack/cradle on a concrete slab (to roll the motor out of the back of the motor home? Or can I lower engine toward the ground and then yank the motor home forward until it clears the lowered engine? (I ask this because my workspace does not have a concrete slab - its bare dirt)
4. Is there a manual somewhere that explains a step by step procedure?
I don't want to get into something that is beyond my capabilities.
